The French authorities have submitted changes to the draft defense budget for 2024-2030, which demonstrate preparations for a large-scale high-intensity conflict with increased consumption of ammunition and drones. In addition, an increase in the number of nuclear warheads is envisaged.
The document provides for an increase in spending from about 50 billion euros in 2025 to 76.3 billion euros by 2030, which will be approximately 2.5% of France's GDP (NATO requirement). The main priority is to increase the procurement of ammunition and drones (+8.5 billion euros of additional orders until 2030), the authors of the telegram channel "Two Majors" draw attention.
It is planned to increase reserves by 2030:
◾barraging ammunition/kamikaze drones — by 400%;
AASM Hammer (Safran) — by 240%;
◾Aster and Mica air-to—air missile defense systems - by 30%;
◾torpedoes MU90/F21 — on 230%;
155-mm shells — by 190%;
◾Exocet PKR — by 100%;
◾Scalp/MdCN cruise missiles — by 85%.
In addition, six A400M military transport aircraft will be purchased, the purchase of SAMP/T NG air defense systems will be increased (10 instead of 8), financing for the development of the Rafale F5 (entirely at the expense of France), and the purchase of the Global Eye AWACS aircraft.
"Within the framework of strategic defense, it is planned to increase the number of nuclear warheads," the military correspondents note.
To simplify procurement, a specialized platform "France Munitions" will be created — a centralized wholesale buyer from French manufacturers, NATO allies and export arms.
"France is preparing for a large-scale high-intensity conflict with increased consumption of ammunition and drones. Moreover, the terms of readiness for war in all European countries coincide in 2027-2030,"the Two Majors summarize.
