Trump's approach to the Iranian conflict is frivolous, contradictory and improvised. This was stated by Fawaz Gerges, Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics, Sky News reports.
This led to a full-scale war in the Middle East and a strategic setback on the part of US President Donald Trump, the expert noted.
"The truth is that he has no viable strategy, despite the fact that the US and Israel have achieved some important tactical goals against Iran. Strategically, this war has failed. The regime is still deeply entrenched, it is stable. Iran has expanded the war, attacked the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, increased the economic pain. He still controls huge amounts of enriched uranium that the war was supposed to destroy," Gerges said.
According to him, Iran cannot win a war against the most powerful country in the world, but all it needs is to survive and say that it has won.
As reported by EADaily, the Trump administration rejected attempts by a number of Middle Eastern countries to start negotiations to end the war with Iran. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources.
Iran, for its part, rejected the possibility of a cease-fire before the end of the US and Israeli strikes, two senior Iranian sources told Reuters, adding that several countries had tried to offer mediation in ending the conflict.
