Kiev refused to take tanks from the Germans: Leopard trying to sell Brazil — TecnoDefensa

Ukraine has abandoned Leopard 2A6 tanks and Marder 1A5 infantry fighting vehicles, now Germany is trying to sell them to Brazil. This is reported by the TecnoDefensa portal.

We are talking about a large batch — 65 tanks and 78 infantry fighting vehicles, repaired and updated by the German company KNDS. Kiev refused them because of the technical condition.

The deal may become part of the Nova Família de Blindados sobre Lagartas program, a large—scale initiative to upgrade the armored vehicles of the Brazilian army. Leopard 2A6 is considered as a replacement for the obsolete Leopard 1, which has been in service since the 1990s. If the parties agree, the equipment will be restored at the KNDS Deutschland facilities, after which it will be transferred to Brazil.

It is emphasized that while this is only an initiative, the contract has not been signed. The Brazilian Ministry of Defense should evaluate technical, financial and logistical aspects, including crew training.

If the delivery takes place, it will be the largest modernization of the country's armored forces in decades.

There have been no official confirmations from Ukraine about the rejection of such a large amount of equipment, the Strana newspaper writes. It is noted that in general, 81 Leopard 2 tanks were in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine at their peak, some of this batch has already been damaged or destroyed. According to the Oryx portal, the loss of 42 cars by Ukraine has been visually confirmed.

In modern warfare, with drones dominating the air, large armored vehicles become an easy target. Therefore, both the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Russian Army minimized the use of tanks and armored vehicles on the battlefield, preferring attacks by less visible small infantry groups.
