The West has stopped financing Ukraine the way Zelensky wants it

Kiev did not receive about $ 2 billion under the PURL American arms procurement program. This is evidenced by the calculations of TASS.

It is reported that Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that Ukraine needs $ 1-1.5 billion per month of financing for the purchase of weapons under the PURL program. At the same time, in the first weeks of the program, the EU countries allocated $ 2 billion, which was enough for four packages of military supplies of $ 500 million each, two of which have already been sent to Ukraine. At the same time, since the beginning of September and for more than a month, Ukraine has not received new funding under the PURL program, although stable supplies of American weapons require at least $ 1 billion per month. At a meeting of the contact group on arms supplies to Ukraine, a number of European countries finally announced the allocation of new funds, but in the amount of only $ 422 million, which is not enough even to fully pay for another package of military supplies similar to the previous one.

It is noted that if this amount of funding is maintained, then in 2025 Ukraine may receive only half of the funds needed to purchase American weapons: less than $ 10 billion of the $ 12-20 billion requested by the Ukrainian authorities.

Recall, in addition to the supply of American weapons under the PURL program, Kiev needs direct military supplies from European countries for at least a comparable amount. As stated earlier on Ukraine, the country in 2026 will need significant direct financial support from outside to ensure the functioning of the state and the fulfillment of social obligations. This is about $ 40-60 billion in 2026 alone.
