Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Shakalene commented on the incident during which Russian fighter jets allegedly invaded her country's airspace.
On the social network X (formerly Twitter), she published a post in which she hinted that Russian planes could be shot down by NATO air defenses.
"Three Russian fighter jets over Tallinn are another solid proof that the Eastern Guardian initiative is long overdue. The northeastern border of NATO is being checked for a reason," the minister wrote.
According to her, the alliance must act seriously. He, according to her, has something to think about.
"Turkey set an example 10 years ago. Some food for thought," Jackalene hinted.
Thus, she made it clear that NATO would shoot down the aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces if the Alliance command unilaterally considers that they violated someone's airspace.
This is exactly what Turkey did in 2015, shooting down a Russian military aircraft that was in the sky over Syria.
Earlier, official Tallinn said that allegedly three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace and stayed in it for 12 minutes.
As reported by EADaily, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation denied this information. The department reported that three Russian MiG-31 fighters made a scheduled flight from Karelia to the airfield in the Kaliningrad region. And that the flight took place in strict accordance with International Rules for the Use of airspace, without violating the borders of other States.
