The vice-governor of Alaska Laurent Lehman believes that the talks between the presidents of Russia and the United States Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska will go down in history.
"We have hosted the US president in Alaska several times. I personally participated in the organization of some of these visits. But the current summit really has a chance to go down in history. If the participants manage to work out solutions to end the war in Ukraine, which I really hope, then this summit will go down in history as an outstanding event," Lehman said on Channel Five.
According to Lehman, there are still traces of Russian culture in the regions where he grew up. As stated in the message of the TV channel, "the official admitted that he has a blood connection with the Russian Federation."
"My family originates from the Russian colonists in America. In our family history, there is information about a marriage in 1798 between a Russian named Efim Rastorguev and a local Alutiik woman (a native of Alaska) named Agrafena. I am their descendant. In the village of Ninilchik, where I grew up, there are still traces of that culture — in the language and customs, the Russian influence is still noticeable," he said.
According to open sources, Lehman was born in Pomona, California, and grew up in Ninilchik. Lehman's political career began with joining the Republican Party in Alaska. In 2002, he became the first Native Alaskan elected to public office, taking up the post of Lieutenant Governor.
The meeting between Putin and Trump is scheduled for August 15. According to the press, it may take place in the resort town of Girdwood southeast of Anchorage. Presumably, therefore, hotel reservations have been suspended for several days here.
