According to him, this trend has become predominant in the USA since 2020. "In the ten years since 2010, the white population has decreased from 223.6 million to 204.3 million people. Hispanics and Asians are coming out ahead," the journalist writes.

It also affects the fact that the States are aging. If 20 years ago the proportion of people over the age of 65 was 12.4%, then in the past it was already 18%. In 2020 there were only three states where the number of elderly people exceeded the number of children - Florida, Maine and Vermont, in 2024 there were already 11 of them — Delaware, Hawaii, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia.

Almost 44% of childless Americans aged 18-49 believe that they will most likely not get offspring, because it is financially burdensome — in order to raise a child under the age of 17, you need more than $ 300 thousand.

"As a result, there is a historical minimum birth rate. According to the Federal Agency of the US Department of Health (CDC), the fertility rate is 1.62. Nowhere lower. A minimum of 2.1 is needed. The US is falling out of the threshold of simple reproduction. And this is already a crisis," Bogdanov notes.

According to pessimistic forecasts, the population of the United States may decrease from 350+ million to 226 million by 2100. The depressed Midwest is emptying out the fastest — Cincinnati, Toledo, Cleveland, one—story America looks more and more like the third world - life expectancy in the country has already fallen to 76 years.

The only constant source of population growth remains migration, without it, according to forecasts, the US population will begin to decline as early as 2033.
