The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responded to the Russian note regarding Baku's anti-Russian actions. Azerbaijan urged the Russian side not to interfere in the internal affairs of the country.
"On July 1, at a meeting of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to A note of protest of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with serious violations of the law, murder and mutilation with particular cruelty to our compatriots, among whom there are both citizens of Azerbaijan and citizens of Russia, was handed over to the Russian Federation Rakhman Mustafayev at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The note expresses a strong protest for the use of torture and degrading acts used by Russian law enforcement agencies during the interrogation of our compatriots," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
In connection with the events held at the office of Sputnik Azerbaijan, presented as a branch of the International News Agency Russia Today, the ambassador "brought to the attention of the opposite side" the position of Azerbaijan.
"The operational search activities of the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted in the office fully comply with the legislation of our country and international obligations ... they have no legal basis for the activities of branches and representative offices in our country… As noted in the message of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a criminal case has now been initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code in connection with the specified illegal activity and investigative measures are continuing. In this regard, it was noted that the discontent of the Russian side has no grounds," Baku said.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry urged Moscow "not to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan." The measures of the Azerbaijani side and the method of their implementation are called "completely legitimate."
