The Russian Embassy in Algeria, with published photos from the wreath-laying ceremony on Victory Day on May 9, confirmed the presence of disgraced General Sergei Surovikin in this African country.

In the photographs taken at the Delhi Ibrahim military cemetery, Surovikin is depicted at the head of a column of diplomatic mission staff. He walks next to the Russian military attache Vladimir Tsukanov to the grave of a Soviet soldier. In the caption to the publication, Surovikin is listed as "the head of a group of Russian military specialists in Algeria," but his name is not called.
