MEPs intend to come to Moscow for the 80th anniversary of the Victory

Five MEPs from Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Cyprus is going to come to Moscow for the 80th anniversary of the Victory, according to Der Spiegel.

According to the newspaper, the delegation will include German politicians Ruth Firmenich and Michael von der Schulenburg (the left-wing populist party Sarah Wagenknecht Union). They stated that with their visit they want to help "overcome the ever-growing spiral of confrontation and escalation in Europe."

The leader of the party, Sarah Wagenknecht, confirmed the information about Firmin's planned trip to Moscow.

"She is going to Moscow to lay a wreath at the monument to the Unknown Soldier in honor of the 80th anniversary of liberation. I don't know what would be worthy of criticism about this. She will not take part in a military parade or similar government appointments," Wagenknecht said.

Spiegel does not name the names of the other three deputies. The visit is to last two days, it is scheduled for the time of the ceasefire announced by Russia.

In Moscow, deputies will take part in celebrations on the occasion of the anniversary of the Victory. They also plan to "hold talks with parliamentarians and other representatives of politics and culture." After the visit to Moscow, the deputies plan to go to Kiev, the newspaper notes.

In 2025 in Russia is celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
