An explosion occurred at the Fryderyk Chopin airport in Warsaw. The incident occurred on April 6, but was hidden from the public.
The first to report the incident was the journalist of the Polish radio station "Zet" Mariusz Gershewski. According to his sources, during the loading of waste from Terminal No. 1, "a fireball appeared."
"From the garbage truck taking the waste, at first there was a sound like an explosion. Then a fireball appeared. The driver of the garbage truck escaped serious burns because he was standing to the side of the vehicle. It is not known what exactly exploded in the garbage truck. According to some reports, there were "flammable, explosive waste" inside," Radio Z writes.
According to the press secretary of the Warsaw airport, Anna Dermont, there were some "municipal waste" in the garbage truck.
"Currently, Chopin Airport is conducting an inspection and analysis of procedures to ensure the highest security standards. The Civil Aviation Department is in constant contact with the airport's management," the department said in a statement.
EADaily reminds that in the fall of 2024, a suitcase exploded at the same Warsaw airport. The cause of the emergency was dry ice, which was contained in a bottle with samples of hamster lung cells. The luggage belonged to the Doctor of natural Sciences Omar Sayed.
