A new forest fire broke out in Los Angeles County and covered more than 20 square kilometers, according to the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection of the state of California.
"Name: Hughes fire. Location: Lake Hughes Trail, near Lake Castaic… Start date: January 22, 2025... Size: 5,054 acres: (about 20.5 square kilometers)," according to the department's website.
As noted, the authorities announced the evacuation of a number of nearby areas.
The forest fires that began in Los Angeles County on January 7 are recognized as the largest in the history of the state. According to the authorities, the total area of fires exceeded 16 thousand hectares. At least 25 people were killed. Meteorologists note that dry and windy weather caused the rapid spread of fire.
