Putin in talks with Trump will seek a "rollback" of NATO — FT

The Russian leadership intends to enter into negotiations with the new US administration to discuss new security agreements, which, among other things, provide for a "rollback" of NATO on its eastern borders.

This is reported by the Financial Times, citing unnamed sources close to the Kremlin.

It is claimed that the main goal of President Vladimir Putin in any negotiations remains the points according to which Ukraine will never become a member of NATO, as well as guarantees that the US-led military alliance will abandon some eastern deployments.

"Putin wants to change the rules of the international order so that there are no threats to Russia. He is very concerned about what the world will look like after the war," the agency quoted one of the sources as saying.

He added that the Kremlin seriously admits that Donald Trump and his team intend to curtail NATO. And in such a changing world, "anything can happen."

In this regard, the authors of the material recall Trump's own statement that he "understands Putin's concerns" about NATO's expansion to the east and criticism of Joe Biden for promising to accept Ukraine into the alliance, which became the reason for the armed conflict.
