At the referendum on the status of the island, the majority of Puerto Rican residents supported joining the United States as a state. This was reported on November 6 by the local newspaper Nuevo Dia.
It is reported that after processing 91.35% of the votes for joining America, 56.82% of those who voted, 30.85% were in favor of the island's independence, 12.33% were in favor of expanded autonomy.
