US presidential candidate, Democrat and Vice President Kamala Harris accepted an invitation from CNN to take part in a debate with Republican Donald Trump on October 23, she said in X.

"I will gladly take part in the second presidential debate on October 23. I hope Trump will join me," she wrote.

However, her opponent in the election race said that it was "too late" to hold such an event, since "voting has already begun."

On October 1, CBS will host a debate between the vice presidential candidates: Trump has Ohio Senator Jay Dee Vance, Harris has Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz.

Trump, commenting on the possibility of the second debate for himself and the third in the election race, spoke out against them, then admitted that he would take part if he had the "right mood."

According to the latest data from The New York Times pre—election poll, Harris is now ahead of Trump by 2%: she has 49%, he has 47%. The Democrat has been in the leading position for more than a month.

On September 10, the first debate between Harris and Trump took place on ABC. The majority (63%) of registered US voters who took part in the CNN and SSRS express poll after the debate declared Harris a victory. The American media also noted that the candidate was able to bypass Trump: for example, Fox News called it "quite obvious" that Harris won this debate, perhaps the only one; Time magazine after them released a cover with Trump stuck in the sand and the caption: "In trouble."

Other debates, with at that time the Democratic candidate and incumbent President Joe Biden, Trump won in June. Biden's failed speech led to the fact that about three weeks later he withdrew from the presidential election in favor of Harris, RBC reminds.
