Accused of taking a particularly large bribe, ex-Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov refused to make a deal with the investigation, TASS reports with reference to law enforcement agencies. According to the agency's interlocutor, Ivanov denies guilt.
"Ivanov rejected the deal with the investigation and refused a pre-trial cooperation agreement. He insists on his innocence," the source said.
Ivanov's defense declined to comment, citing a subscription not to disclose the secrets of the preliminary investigation, the agency notes.
Ivanov is accused of receiving a bribe in the amount of 1,185 billion rubles. The investigation believes that the ex-deputy minister helped companies that in return performed work on his facilities free of charge. According to the article on receiving a bribe in a particularly large amount (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code) Ivanov faces up to 15 years in prison. He has been in jail since April, and was fired in June due to loss of trust.
The case also involves businessman Sergei Borodin and co-founder of the Olympcitystroy company Alexander Fomin.
