The Japanese retailer Yamanaka sold low-salted Russian salmon in packages labeled "made in Hokkaido" in four of its stores in Aichi Prefecture in 2022-2023. This is reported by the Japanese newspaper Mainichi.
It is noted that on July 17, the Bureau of Agricultural Policy of the Tokai region instructed Yamanaka, which operates 61 supermarkets, to investigate and analyze the cause of the incident and take measures to prevent a relapse.
According to the company, since January 2022, 8 thousand packages of Russian salmon have been sold in their stores under the guise of being produced in Hokkaido. The error was caused by the fact that not all chain stores were aware of the change of suppliers from Hokkaido to manufacturers from Of Russia.
"We would like to express our deepest apologies, and we will take this seriously and conduct a research session on labeling production areas to ensure that sales are properly labeled," the company said.
