The Embassy of Russia in Latvia has been puzzled to know that Latvia’s Ambassador to Ukraine Argita Daudze has accused Moscow of having breached the Minsk agreements.
The press service of the Russian embassy says that the embassy cannot help being puzzled. “Before making such statements, Ms Daudze should have read the text of the agreements. If she did, she would see that Russia is just a guarantor of the Minsk agreements, along with France and Germany, and not a party obliged to implement them. Why then hasn’t Ms Daudze accused France and Germany as well? Instead of accusing us, Ms Daudze should better urge the Ukrainian authorities to meet their obligations,” the embassy says.
Earlier, Daudze said that Russia was violating the Minsk agreements. “The Ukrainians are monitoring the contact line on a daily basis and are counting how many shots are being fired. And they are shooting back only for self-defense purposes,” Daudze said.
During his last week’s joint press conference with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis said that the EU should keep its sanctions against Russia in force until the Minsk agreements are fully implemented.
