Journalist, author and presenter of the legendary program "Quiet House" Sergey Sholokhov has died

Sergey Sholokhov, a Russian journalist, TV presenter, art critic, academician of the Nika Film Academy, died at the age of 68. This was announced on his social media page by his stepson Vsevolod Moskvin.

"We are saddened to announce the passing of our dad, the legend of television, Sergei Leonidovich Sholokhov," he wrote.

Moskvin added that the date and place of the funeral will be announced later.

He did not disclose the circumstances and cause of death.

Sergey Sholokhov was born on September 27, 1958 in Leningrad. He graduated from the Philological Faculty of Leningrad State University, then completed postgraduate studies at the Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography, becoming a candidate of art history.

In 1987, he began working at Leningrad television as an editor of the cinema department. He became widely known as the host of the journalistic program "The Fifth Wheel". One of its releases, which Sholokhov prepared together with musician and composer Sergei Kuryokhin, went down in history under the name "Lenin — mushroom".

Since 1991, he began producing his own program about cinema "Quiet House". From 1992 to 1998, the program was broadcast on the channel "Russia", then — until 2017 — on The first channel. Since the mid-2000s, the program has covered the world's most prestigious film festivals — in Berlin, Cannes and Venice.

He is the author and producer of 10 documentaries, such as "Alexey German — Lionheart", "Nikita Mikhalkov — his own among his own", "Kirill Lavrov — grandfather and grandson", "Alexey Balabanov: in search of happiness".

Sergey Sholokhov is a laureate of the Golden Pen — 96 press competition, as well as a laureate of the Figaro Prize (2023).
