Armenia should move closer to the European Union (EU) at its own expense, and not at the expense of Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was announced today, May 29, by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
"There is still a big question: moving towards the European Union, which is Armenia's absolute sovereign right, Armenia cannot and should not do this at the expense of the finances of the EAEU countries. That is, she should do it at her own expense," Peskov said.
He also noted that as Armenia approaches the EU, sooner or later it will find itself in a situation where the norms adopted by it will contradict the norms of the EAEU.
As EADaily reported, Yerevan demonstrates a consistent policy of severing relations with Russia and the EAEU. This week, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a pre-election meeting in the city of Garni that Armenia is not afraid of rising commodity prices in case of worsening ties with Russia, as it intends to get rich by turning the country into a "crossroads of the world."
