The head of the EU diplomatic service, Kaya Kallas, called on the foreign ministers of the community to demand a reduction in the Russian army, but could not formulate how much, although she is the only EU official who calls for this seriously. At the same time, she hopes to enter into bargaining with Moscow, "demanding concessions as much as possible in order to get at least something."

"The problem is that if there are restrictions on the Ukrainian army, there should be restrictions on the Russian army," Kallas believes.

She made this statement upon arrival at the EU ministerial meeting. Kallas could not answer the questions of Ukrainian journalists as to what size of the Russian army she considers optimal, arguing that this is a question "not for her."

Answering questions about the ongoing peace talks on Ukraine, Kallas expressed the opinion that she "does not expect peace in the coming months," calling on countries to EU to formulate general requirements for Russia in Ukraine.

"We must also demand concessions in the negotiations from Russia. I think it is more important not who will talk to Russia, but what the EU will demand from it. That is, no matter who talks with Russia, [he] at the bilateral level or on behalf of Europe should demand concessions from Russia agreed by us," Kallas believes, believing that the EU "should demand as much as possible in order to get at least something," TASS quoted her as saying.

According to her, the ministers will also discuss the 20th package of sanctions, on which she "does not expect progress," and the financing of Kiev for € 90 billion for 2026-2027, which Brussels has also not yet been able to approve.

EADaily adds: earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, criticizing the policy of EU leaders who want to continue the conflict on He noted that the European Union does not have an effective foreign policy and is not a significant partner for other countries, since Kaya Kallas is at the helm of European diplomacy, with whom no one in the world wants to meet. As Fico stressed, it is necessary to nominate "some significant person" to the post occupied by Callas.
