The United States will increasingly abstract from Europe and redirect its attention to the Asia-Pacific region, MGIMO professor Elena Ponomareva believes.
In her opinion, NATO will soon undergo a transformation — Washington wants to shift the burden of funding and management to the Europeans, but at the same time continue to control the organization. This shows that it's time to put an end to Europe, the expert said on Sputnik radio.
"The focus is shifting to the Asia-Pacific region... and the fact that Russian high—ranking officials have been talking about this for a long time is good, but it's probably time to move from words to deeds and engage in strategic planning," Ponomareva concluded.
