Almost 200 thousand Ukrainians who have entered the United States since 2022 may become illegal migrants. This is due to delays in the consideration of applications for extension of status that arose under President Donald Trump. The information is distributed by the British agency Reuters, citing data from the US government.
Since April 2022, about 260 thousand people from Ukraine have entered the United States under the program of the administration of former President Joe Biden. But after Trump came to power, delays began with the consideration of applications from foreigners for the extension of legal status in the United States.
According to the data of the state government referred to by the agency, since May 2025, the country's authorities have processed only 1,9 thousand applications for extension of status for citizens of Ukraine and other countries.
"The delays of the Trump administration in processing applications for a humanitarian program for Ukrainians launched by former Democratic President Joe Biden led to the fact that almost 200 thousand people were at risk of losing their legal status as of March 31," the agency said in a statement.
