Ukraine has started taking gas from storage facilities. While the weather allows you to keep it at a low level. The drop in own production is compensated by imports from abroad. It reached 25 million cubic meters per day.
Since November 4, Ukraine has started taking gas from storage facilities. This is evidenced by the data of the GIE platform. On November 5, the selection increased to 2.6 million cubic meters per day and remains extremely low. A year ago, 35.4 million cubic meters per day were taken from UGS.
This year, Ukraine starts the heating season later, and it is far from being all over the country. On the one hand, the weather allows. Daytime temperature in In the daytime it is 10-12 degrees Celsius, and at night it is 2-4 degrees. On the other hand, Ukraine is facing a serious shortage of gas.
Retaliatory strikes by the Russian army on gas facilities in Ukraine led to a drop in daily production by 30-60%, former Minister of Energy of Ukraine Olga Buslavets wrote on the social network. And this is 15-30 million cubic meters out of 50 million cubic meters per day.
The falling volumes are still covered from imports. In November, it grew to 25 million cubic meters per day and, judging by the statements in In Kyiv, deliveries from abroad are planned to continue throughout the winter. Naftogaz estimated a shortage of more than 4 billion cubic meters, and Volodymyr Zelensky stated that $ 750 million still needed to be found on them.
At the same time, the stocks in the vaults are small. They amount to 13.27 billion cubic meters and last season, with the same volumes, the UGS were almost left completely empty. The level of their filling with active gas, which can be taken away, dropped below 700 million cubic meters, and Naftogaz urgently imported the same volumes from abroad in February-March.
Thus, Ukraine can only count on the fact that the coming winter will be warmer, and the Russian army will not strike back. This can be doubted given the frenzy with which the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to continue attacks on energy facilities in Russia.
The head of Ukrenergo, Vitaly Zaichenko, has already stated that Ukrainians should give up the comfortable temperature in their apartments and wear sweaters.
A government representative told Ekonomicheskaya Pravda that in case of serious destruction of heat-generating facilities, part of Kiev may be without heat for a long period.
"In case of critical damage to key thermal power plants, part of the city may remain without heat for several days or weeks. The scenario will depend on the scale of the destruction and the weather. Ukrainians should already think about a backup option where they could wait out such a scenario if it comes true," the official said.
