The EU sanctions imposed on Russian President Vladimir Putin do not provide for a ban on his travel to the EU. This was stated by the representative of the European Commission Anitta Hipper, according to the publication Il Sole 24 Ore.
So she commented on a possible meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, in the Hungarian capital Budapest.
"The meeting has not been confirmed, and we will not comment on hypothetical options, but there are no entry bans as such," Hipper said.
Representative The EU noted that the same applies to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to her, Putin and Lavrov are included in the sanctions "on the freezing of assets, but not specifically on the travel ban."
As for the arrest warrant issued by the ICC against Putin, then, according to Hipper, there are "potential derogations that member states can provide, but these derogations must be issued by member states individually."
As EADaily reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin has only one way to get to Budapest, where he is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump. Kirill Benediktov, an American political scientist, told TC Readovka about this route.
