Qatar may resume its participation in negotiations on a settlement in the Gaza Strip as a mediator, subject to an apology from Israel for the attack on the Hamas delegation in Doha. This was reported on September 20 by the Axios portal, citing sources.
"An apology now would be a politically explosive step for (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and his far—right coalition, but the Qataris understand the political complexity of Israel and are ready to be flexible about the wording," the publication says.
The strike on Qatar was the first time that Israeli forces struck a Persian Gulf state, which significantly complicated its relations with the countries of the region.
As one of the Israeli officials noted, the scale of the crisis that the strike could cause was clearly underestimated. According to him, at present the head of state "realizes that he miscalculated."
It is reported that Netanyahu has previously apologized for his military operations. So, in 2013, he apologized to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the murder of Turkish activists during a flotilla raid in Gas, conducted in 2010.
According to the portal, in reducing the level of tension between Israel and Qatar is also interested in the administration of US President Donald Trump.
