Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that Armenia and Azerbaijan should join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
"We submitted an application, and Azerbaijan submitted an application. Azerbaijan and we have been invited as a partner to the upcoming summit. We will take part. We think that both we and Azerbaijan can and should join this organization," Mirzoyan said on the republic's public television.
As EADaily reported, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will take part in the SCO summit in China. The SCO summit this year will be held from August 31 to September 1 in the Chinese city of Tianjin. The meeting will bring together leaders of more than 20 states and heads of 10 international organizations. Among them is the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The SCO was founded in 2001. The organization includes India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan. On July 4, 2024, Belarus officially joined the organization at the Astana summit.
