The leader of the Romanian opposition party Alliance for the Unification of Romanians (AUR), George Simion, admitted defeat in the presidential election. He stated this in his video message on the page in the social network.

According to the election results, his opponent, Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan, scored 53.74% (6.1 million votes), and Simion — 46.26% (5.3 million votes).

"I would like to congratulate my opponent Nikushor Dan. He won the election. I want to thank more than 5 million Romanians who trusted me," he said.

Initially, the elections were to be held in November and December 2024. However, then the Constitutional Court of Romania canceled the results of the first round of elections, which were won by the pro-Russian candidate Calin Georgescu, and scheduled a new vote for May.

The first round of the new voting took place on May 4. The second round was held by the head of the Alliance for the Unification of Romanians, George Simion (the result of almost 41% of the votes), and the mayor of Bucharest, Nicusor Dan (about 21% of the votes).
