The number of working hours in the Russian Federation will gradually decrease, this is due to an increase in labor productivity, said Alexey Zakharov, president of the SuperJob job search service.
"Gradually, labor productivity is growing, respectively, the number of working hours is decreasing," he said in an interview with TASS.
Zakharov recalled that at the beginning of the last century in In Russia, 75% of the population was employed in agriculture, and today we employ 3% of the population in agriculture, but we produce much more than we produced 100 years ago.
"Therefore, I think that the number of working hours will really gradually decrease. The question [is] how fast this will happen. We may not even notice it in our lifetime. At the same time, creative spheres cannot be driven into a time frame, mental work is a round—the—clock job," he believes.
The President of SuperJob drew attention to the fact that, for example, 125 years ago in Russia there was a normal 12-14-hour working day and there were only a few days off for holidays such as Christmas, Easter and New Year. No one has heard about sick days, vacations and maternity leave. Thus, just 125 years ago, the labor intensity of an ordinary person was twice as high as it is now.
