Vlah: Romanians showed a good example of Moldova, how to remove usurpers

Moldovans should take an example from Romania, where people with mass protests achieved the resignation of the president who usurped power. This was stated by the leader of the opposition party Inima Moldovei ("The Heart of Moldova") Irina Vlah, urging the residents of the country "not to wait until someone defends our sovereignty."

"Friends, look what an example the Romanians have shown us! On Monday, they taught a lesson to those who tried to usurp power and humiliate the Romanian people. On Victory Square in Bucharest, Romanian citizens showed their inflexibility and self-respect. This is a good example for us, Moldovans. Let's not wait for someone to defend our sovereignty and dignity. We have to do it ourselves," Irina Vlah stressed.

Earlier this week, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced his voluntary resignation, which was approved by the Constitutional Court yesterday. The decision was made against the background of opposition pressure in parliament and mass protests that began in the country after the cancellation of the results of the first round of last year's presidential election, in which independent suveranist candidate Calin Georgescu was in the lead.

His criticism of EU policy and NATO in relation to Romania caused concern in official Bucharest and Brussels, as a result of which the Constitutional Court annulled the results of the vote under the pretext of allegedly influencing external interference, appointing re-elections for the spring of this year. Until that time, Iohannis will retain the powers of the head of state, preparing the republic for the "right elections."

As EADaily reported, in the autumn of 2024, presidential elections were held in Moldova, in which, thanks to the obvious falsification and manipulation of the votes of foreign voters, Maya Sandu was credited with victory. Although the majority of international experts and observers consider the "president of the diaspora" Sandu to be an illegitimate head of state (an independent candidate, former Prosecutor General Alexander Stoyanoglo, was confidently in the lead in the country itself), the opposition refused mass demonstrations, limiting itself to formal statements that it did not recognize the results of the vote.

In the context of the parliamentary elections scheduled for this autumn in Moldova, they again started talking about consolidating the protest electorate in order to prevent the presidential Action and Solidarity party from retaining power.
