The morning reports from the Polish city of Slubice bordering Germany are stunning. The settlement is paralyzed by a giant traffic jam formed due to a queue at the Polish-German border. The situation has been repeating itself regularly for several months now.
Slubice residents complain about the daily paralysis of the city. They cannot get to work or school, municipal services are unable to perform basic work, ambulances hardly pass through crowded streets.
The whole situation is caused by the reintroduction of border controls by Germany. A thorough check of persons crossing the border is most annoying for those who live in Slubitz and work in Germany (the city of Frankfurt an der Oder is located on the German side).
"Did the Poles expect this when they joined the European Union? The promised "abolition of borders", apparently, has come to a sad end, and there are no signs that anything will change in the coming months," complains the Polish portal "The Highest Hour", putting in the title "This is how the Schengen zone is dying."
It is curious that before Poland joined the EU in Two factories worked in Slubice — clothing and furniture. However, European integration has ruined enterprises. Now, instead of a furniture factory, there is a shopping mall, and a wasteland remains of a textile factory.
