Wildfires in the Los Angeles area caused damage in the amount of 52 to 57 billion dollars, ABC TV channel reports, citing data from AccuWeather.
According to local authorities, the disaster has already claimed the lives of five people, there are victims. Four large fires continue to rage. The most destructive of them was a fire in the Pacific Palisades area, which destroyed about a thousand buildings and covered more than 2 thousand hectares. It has not yet been possible to localize the fire.
Los Angeles County has imposed mandatory evacuation orders for tens of thousands of residents. The head of the district fire service admitted that the resources were designed to fight one or two large fires, but not four at the same time. The situation is aggravated by strong winds, which temporarily stopped the work of aviation, and fire hydrants in the Palisades area were not functioning.
The fires have already been called one of the most destructive in the history of Los Angeles County. Another major fire, Eaton Fire, has covered more than 10 thousand hectares in the Altadena area and threatens the safety of about 13 thousand buildings.
