Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer stressed the need for negotiations and de-escalation of the conflict after the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. He wrote about this on his page on the social network X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, August 11.

"Attacks on nuclear infrastructure are extremely dangerous and aggravate the situation. Today's incident at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant underlines the important role of the IAEA and the need to continue the dialogue initiated at the peace summit in Burgenstock (in Switzerland). De-escalation and negotiations are necessary," he stressed.

On August 11, the governor of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, reported a fire at the facility of the cooling systems of the NPP after the shelling of the city of Energodar by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He stressed that there is no threat, firefighters are eliminating hotbeds of fire. Later, the main directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region reported that the fire had been extinguished. As a result of the Ukrainian drone strike, the non-functioning tower cooling tower No. 1 was damaged.

The press service of the station noted that the NPP is operating normally, the fire did not affect the operation of the station. The radiation background at the site of the nuclear power plant, according to the press service, is within normal limits.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that it had received a notification from the NPP about an alleged drone attack on one of the cooling towers. Commenting on the incident, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on the IAEA to stop the nuclear terror of the continent by the Kiev regime.

In turn, the Rosatom State Corporation stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on the NPP equipment is a fact of nuclear terrorism. It is also reported that, despite the elimination of the main sources of ignition, serious damage was caused to the internal structures of the cooling tower, Izvestia reminds.
