Justice Minister of Moldova Victoria Iftodi has participated in the Conference of Ministers of Justice with the motto: "Continued Reform of the European Human Rights Convention System – Better Balance, Improved Protection." The event is held in Copenhagen, April 11-13.
In her speech, the minister said Moldova “is facing interstate conflict with Russia. As European Court of Human Rights mentioned multiple times, Republic of Moldova lacks control over occupied territories. The ECHR reforms remains the single efficient method to remedy the breached human rights of people living in those territories."Iftodi was appointed as Justice Minister of Moldova on March 19 by President Igor Dodon. The president said he personally knows Iftodi, who previously worked at the Constitutional Court and is “one of the few professionals” in the area.
Earlier, EADaily reported that in summer, 2017, Moldova’s Permanent Representative to UN Victor Moraru suggested putting issue of full withdrawal of foreign military contingents from the country on agenda of UN GA 72nd Regular Session. Earlier, the Constitutional Court of Moldova equated Russian peacekeepers deployed in Transnistria with “occupational troops.”
