Ukrainian firefighters continue fighting turf fires in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, press center of the Ukrainian the State Service for Emergency Situations has informed today, on June 7.
According to the press center, as of 07:00 a.m. of July 7, the situation was under control. 87 firefighters continued to put out two turf fires over an area of 5.5 hectares.
As EADaily reported earlier, the fire started on June 29 and covered an area of 130 hectares. Later, all the six fire sources were extinguished, but after that peat-beds started smoldering.
