Kiev and Warsaw are discussing a deal to supply Ukraine with lethal weapons, Andrii Deshchytsia, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Poland told reporters behind the scenes of the 8th Kiev Security Forum on May 28.
“The issue (supply of lethal weapons) was discussed several times and it remains on agenda of Ukraine and Poland at both the diplomatic and the military levels. I think, we must be ready for Poland’s assistance in terms of lethal weapons, but this issue is not acute. Therefore, we continue to prepare ground so that the decision could be adopted at the right moment,” UNN quotes Deshchytsia as saying.
It is noteworthy that Ukraine actually refuses to implement the Minsk Agreements on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass and keeps shelling at the territories of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. On May 26 alone, five, including an 11-year-old child, were killed, as Ukrainian forces in Gorlovka fired from heavy weapons and mortars. In addition, the president, prime minister, and foreign minister of Ukraine officially refused to start a dialogue with the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass, as EADaily reported earlier.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, in turn, came out for full demarcation of the territory under control of the self-defense forces in Donbass.
“My stand is the following: it is necessary to close the boundary line completely. From all. It’s my radical point of view, it`s our opinion. We must close the line,” he said.
