The prime ministers of the federal states of Germany from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and individual chairmen of the regional branches of the party held a meeting on the evening of September 20 without the participation of German Chancellor and CDU leader Friedrich Merz. It was attended by seven of the eight prime ministers, as well as the chairmen of the party's branches in Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony, Manuel Hagel and Sebastian Lechner. Earlier, the same circle of people took part in a meeting of the party presidium with Merz at the CDU headquarters. The reason for the Chancellor's absence at the DPA meeting is the failure of the Christian Democrats in the land elections in Mecklenburg—Vorpommern and Berlin.
