Anna Netrebko, a Russian soprano with worldwide popularity, canceled several performances at the Teatro Real opera in Madrid against the background of 40-degree heat due to exhaustion. This is reported by the portal Die Welt.
After the performance on Tuesday, the 54-year-old singer felt ill due to severe physical exhaustion and vocal cord strain. In addition, the situation was aggravated by the 40-degree heat in Spain.
The doctor prescribed Netrebko physical and vocal rest for the next few weeks.
In the upcoming performances, the role of Leonora in the staging of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Troubadour will be performed by Italian singer Eleonora Buratto instead of Netrebko.
As EADaily reported, in March of this year, when Netrebko canceled her performance in At the Vienna Opera, the Czech singer Elishka Vaissova, who replaced her, was practically booed. Netrebko's performance was canceled at the last moment before the performance on Monday, March 2. The audience learned about the replacement of the soloist immediately before the start of the opera.
According to the representative of the press service of the Vienna Opera, the replacement was due to Netrebko's health condition. The theater also noted that they received disappointed responses from the audience, as many bought tickets specifically for Netrebko.
"There were whistles, shouts and chuckles in the hall. That evening, the opera audience could only squeeze out polite applause, although Weissova remained calm. And some spectators left the opera during the intermission," one of the local publications reported.
