The Russian army continues to strike back at Ukraine and some of them fall on solar power plants, which have become one of the main sources of electricity in the country.

"The Nikopolskaya solar power plant, which was used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, burned down with a bright flame after the Geranium strikes. Flames and clouds of smoke can be seen for several kilometers," the Zvezda TV channel reports.

They clarified that the target was destroyed near the settlement of Starozavodskoye in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The Nikopolskaya station belongs to DTEK and is considered one of the most powerful in Europe — 200 MW. DTEK spent 216 million euros on the construction, and the number of panels amounted to 750 thousand.

After the retaliatory strikes of the Russian army on thermal and hydroelectric power plants, solar generation has become one of the main sources of electricity in the Ukraine.

The production center is located in the south of Ukraine and the location of the stations already demonstrates the situation in the country's energy system, which is becoming increasingly fragmented. If a year ago the power system looked like a relatively complete one: at night they imported cheap electricity, during the day they exported their own generation, then this June the situation is different.

Physical streams published on ENTSO-E show that the south-western node (Odessa region, Bessarabia, connection with Moldova and Romania) It regularly has excess electricity and continues to export even when the country as a whole is importing.

So, if the difference between export and import is on If the cost of Ukraine was 500 MWh on June 4, 2025, then today it is planned at minus 5.5 GWh.
