Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the aggravation of relations with Armenia after the visit of the head of the Kiev regime Vladimir Zelensky to Yerevan.

He stated that the Armenian authorities could hold a referendum on joining the EU. And if the Armenian people support such a course, Russia could start a "civilized divorce" with Armenia.

Putin also drew a parallel with Ukraine, noting that "everything there also began with the issue of European integration."

"I told Pashinyan: we will support everything that is beneficial to the Armenian people," Putin said.

As EADaily reported, Zelensky in early May made regular threats against Russia in Armenia, the EAEU country, hinting that Ukrainian drones could strike at the Victory Day Parade on May 9 in Moscow. After that, Armenian Ambassador Gurgen Arsenyan was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The head of the diplomatic mission was told about the categorical unacceptability of providing in Armenia within the framework of recent events under the auspices of EU tribunes to the leader of the Kiev Nazi regime Vladimir Zelensky for voicing terrorist threats against Russia… It was emphasized that Moscow is justly indignant in this regard and considers the absence of a proper negative assessment by official Yerevan of such blatant behavior of the said visitor inappropriate to the partnership nature of Russian-Armenian relations," the Foreign Ministry said.

Moscow has also repeatedly stressed that staying in the EAEU and joining the EU are mutually exclusive processes.
