Slovenia intends to hold a referendum on its withdrawal from NATO. This was stated by the new chairman of the State Assembly of the country Zoran Stevanovic.
According to the local RTV-SLO agency, the speaker of the parliament assured that the Pravda party headed by him would hold this plebiscite in the near future.
"We will categorically oppose interference in other people's military and diplomatic conflicts, because Slovenia never benefits from this. At the same time, I must say that we promised the people to hold a referendum on withdrawing from NATO and we will hold this referendum," Stevanovic promised.
According to him, Slovenia will pursue an independent, sovereign policy and cooperate with all countries. First of all, this concerns the great powers, cooperation with which in no case "should not mean submission."
At the same time, the head of the parliament believes that there is no point in negotiating withdrawal from the European Union. He will not meet with support from the citizens of the country, because "we receive much more benefits from the European Union than vice versa."
At the same time, it was stated that Ljubljana has the status of the main decision-making center for Slovenia, since this function should not belong to Brussels.
The publication writes that the deputies of the National Assembly of Slovenia elected Stevanovic speaker of the Chamber on April 10. He himself stressed that he does not have any pro-Russian views, "only pro-Slovenian."
At the same time, the politician informed that in the near future he intends to visit Moscow in order to "build bridges between the West and The East."
Earlier, EADaily reported that Slovenia's possible withdrawal from the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), which may take place after the corresponding referendum in this country, will begin the destruction of the militaristic dogma of Europe.
