Russophobia is being actively cultivated among the German population, the scale of which at the present stage can be considered unprecedented for the entire post-war period.

This assessment of the mood in German society was given by Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev during his interview with the NachDenkSeiten portal.

"Unfortunately, today Russophobia in Germany has reached a scale that has no precedent for the entire post—war period," the diplomat stated.

He stressed that such a high level of hatred of Russians was not observed even during the Cold War, as well as the ideological confrontation between the West and The East.

According to the Russian Ambassador, a toxic atmosphere around Russia and any contacts with Moscow is being systematically fomented in the Federal Republic.

Nechaev explained that for this purpose propaganda campaigns are constantly being initiated in Germany, in which allegations are made about "spies", "hybrid attacks" and "disinformation campaigns" allegedly linked to the Russian Federation.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission noted that most of the German population still remains resistant to anti-Russian rhetoric and continues to treat the Russia, hoping to establish friendly relations.

Earlier, EADaily reported that concerts of former Modern Talking soloist Dieter Bohlen were canceled in Lithuania because the singer advocated the normalization of relations between Germany and Russia, and also called for the purchase of energy resources from the Russian Federation.
