The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the Knesset law on the execution of Palestinians found guilty of terrorism by Israeli courts, describing it as a violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions of 1949.
Tehran's statement said that the law, which was developed and approved as part of the policy of genocide and colonial eradication of the Palestinian people, further confirms the apartheid and fascist nature of the Zionist regime being created by Israel, and also serves as evidence of the moral and human degradation of Israeli politicians and officials.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry reminded all countries, the UN and human rights organizations of the responsibility for the impunity of the Zionist regime and the ongoing crimes against the Palestinians, as well as other countries in the region.
It should be noted that executions of "Israeli spies" and opposition activists are also taking place in Iran itself. The death penalty in Iran is provided for murder, rape, armed robbery, espionage, treason, corruption, as well as crimes against Islam.
According to Israeli media, in a survey on the law on executions adopted by the Knesset, 68% of participants unequivocally supported it, 11% were against it, 18% chose the answer: "I do not support it as adopted, although I believe that murderous terrorists should be executed in special cases."
As EADaily reported, today the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk appealed to Israel not to reinstate the death penalty, since the law has been restored "to the extent applicable almost exclusively to Palestinians."
