There are reports in the media about an attack on an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka. We are talking about the light frigate Dena of the Mowj project, which was returning from exercises in India International Fleet Review 2026.
This morning, the Sri Lankan Navy received a distress signal from a sinking ship and rescued 32 Iranian sailors out of 180 people who were on board. The remaining crew members — 101 people — are missing.
The frigate was attacked, probably by a submarine, Reuters reports, citing sources in the country's Defense Ministry.
Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijita Herath confirmed the information about the assistance to the sinking ship of the Iranian Navy.
Dena is one of the most modern warships of Iran, it was commissioned in 2021, according to the Rybar TV channel. Just a few weeks ago, he took part in naval exercises in India. As for the means of destruction, the submarine of the US Navy could well have been involved in this.
