Hungary has blocked a 90 billion euro loan agreed with the EU for Ukraine, the Financial Times newspaper reports, citing sources.
As noted, Budapest at the last moment expressed disagreement with the decision to jointly borrow funds under the guarantees of the EU budget.
"Hungary has blocked the agreed loan EU for Ukraine in the amount of 90 billion euros… The Hungarian Ambassador to the EU on Friday objected to the bloc borrowing the amount for Ukraine by issuing debt obligations guaranteed by the EU budget," the report said.
A decision requires the unanimity of all 27 EU member States.
It was decided to issue a loan for 2026-2027 to Ukraine at the EU summit in December 2025. Now a package of laws is being coordinated to implement the decision, then it will be necessary to approve the allocation of 90 billion in the European Parliament and The Council of the European Union.
