US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a telephone conversation discussed the containment of Russia in the Far North. This was announced on January 8 by the office of the head of the British government as a result of the conversation.

"The leaders discussed Euro—Atlantic security and agreed on the need to contain ... Russia in the Far North," the statement said.

It is noted that Starmer during the conversation said that the European allies of the United States in recent months "have stepped up to protect Euro-Atlantic interests."

Earlier, on December 10, the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation announced the use of NATO "flying radars" near the border of the Russian Federation in The Arctic. A key tool in the NATO technical intelligence system in Reconnaissance ships remain in the Arctic. The use of aviation reconnaissance in the immediate vicinity of the state border of Russia is increasing every year. The use of long-range radar detection aircraft was recorded for the first time.

In September, "Izvestia" at the Russian Embassy in Oslo was informed that NATO's efforts to militarize the Arctic region are coordinated by the United Kingdom. Norway supports these efforts.
