Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni decided to auction off a number of state gifts, which caused a real stir in the Western media.
As the "Other Ukraine" writes, the auction will be held in Rome. A collection of more than 270 gifts received from world leaders will go under the hammer to individuals. One of the most intriguing lots is an iPad donated by Vladimir Zelensky.
One of the most expensive lots is a diamond necklace from the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. And one of the most beautiful is the porcelain coffee set of the Herend brand, donated by Viktor Orban.
Blue python leather shoes, a bag of rice, and part of a high-voltage cable will also be sold. It is expected that as a result of the auction it will be possible to raise about 800 thousand euros.
As explained by foreign media, this event is not some extravagant trick of Signora Georgia Meloni. Simply, according to Italian law, the prime minister has no right to keep gifts worth more than 300 euros, which was the reason for the sale.
Earlier, EADaily reported that, according to The Financial Times, Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni became the "killer" of the European Commission's (EC) project to confiscate frozen Russian assets.
