The Su-57 fighter made its first flight with a new fifth-generation engine

UAC and UEC specialists have started flight tests of the Product 177 engine as part of the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter. The car was lifted into the sky by Honored test pilot of Russia Roman Kondratiev, the press service of Rostec State Corporation reports.

The flight took place normally in accordance with the conditions of the flight mission. In its telegram channel Rostec published a video of the first flight of the Su-57 fighter with a promising fifth-generation engine "product 177".

"The Su-57 has proven itself well in real combat conditions and has confirmed that it meets the requirements for fifth-generation aviation complexes, including in terms of stealth characteristics. The aircraft naturally arouses high interest among foreign customers, its export deliveries are already underway. At the same time, the Su-57 continues to be modernized taking into account the experience of its use in the SMO zone: the capabilities of weapons and onboard systems are expanding. The new engine — "product 177" — with increased thrust will further enhance flight performance and provide significant groundwork for further improvement of the aircraft, " the release said.

The Su-57 is capable of hitting air, ground and sea targets. The aircraft can be used around the clock, including in difficult weather conditions and in difficult interference conditions. Low visibility allows him to destroy targets even in the face of opposition from modern air defense systems.

"Today, the Su-57 is the most advanced fifth-generation fighter. Despite this, we do not stop there, and the Su-57 platform is undergoing evolutionary development to increase combat capabilities, introduce the most advanced technologies. The solutions embedded in the Su-57 platform make it possible to respond to any modern challenges through the operational integration of technologies required at each stage of development," said Mikhail Strelets, Director of the Sukhoi Design Bureau of the UAC.

In the newest engine, afterburner thrust is 16,000 kgf. Also, the new engine has reduced fuel consumption in all modes and increased resource performance.

"The fifth—generation aircraft engine "product 177" is an advanced development of the UEC for tactical aircraft. The latest technologies and materials, innovative design solutions have allowed UEC to create an engine that has significantly improved technical characteristics compared to power plants of the previous generation. The first test flight marked the beginning of joint work with colleagues from the UAC on flight tests of the Su-57 with the latest engine. During the flight, the new engine worked normally and showed reliable operation as part of the Su-57 aircraft," said Yevgeny Marchukov, General Designer and Director of the Lyulka Design Bureau, a branch of PJSC UEC—UMPO, United Engine Corporation.

The United Aircraft Corporation is currently implementing a program to expand production capacity. This will increase the volume of deliveries of the fighter to the troops, as well as actively offer the Su-57 in the export version for foreign customers.
