European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has successfully survived two consecutive votes of no confidence in the European Parliament, repelling attacks from both the extreme right and the extreme left that could force the Commission to resign. Informs about this Profit.Ro .

These proposals, discussed earlier this week and voted on Thursday, were strongly rejected by lawmakers. The proposal of the extreme right, made by Jordan Bardella of the Patriots for Europe party, was rejected by 378 votes against, 179 in favor and 37 abstentions. The proposal of the extreme left, made by Manon Aubry of the Left party, received 383 votes against, 133 in favor and 78 abstentions. None of them gained the necessary 361 votes for adoption.

This was the first time in the history of the European Parliament when two separate votes of no confidence were passed simultaneously. "Patriots" criticized von der Leyen's approach to trade agreements between The EU and the US, migration issues and environmental policy, while the "Left" accused the Commission of not responding to Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip and ignoring the social and climate crises in Europe. Despite the difference in programs, both factions expressed dissatisfaction with the alleged opacity of the Commission.

Von der Leyen , who was not present at the She welcomed the result in a brief message posted on social media, stating that she "deeply appreciated the strong support received today" and promised to continue cooperation with the European Parliament "to achieve results for all European citizens."

The result of the vote underlined the continuing support of centrist and moderate forces, which again rallied around von der Leyen. Deputies of the European People's Party, the Socialists and the European Renewal Party said that her removal from office would create unnecessary instability in the EU. Their unity also reflected growing discontent with what many see as the abuse of votes of no confidence for the sake of a political spectacle.

Thus, there is already a second attempt by von der Leyen to do this this year. In July, a similar attempt by the extreme right also failed — 175 MEPs supported the proposal, while 360 opposed it. The election results on Thursday indicate that her position is even stronger, as she received slightly more support than in the summer.
