Press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov commented on the confidence expressed by the head of the White House Donald Trump that Turkey will abandon Russian gas.
The Turkish Stream is operating at full capacity. The Blue Stream is operating at full capacity," the Kremlin spokesman said.
"We continue our trade and economic cooperation with the Republic of Turkey. This is a sovereign state that decides for itself in which areas to cooperate with us. And if some types of trade in some goods seem beneficial to the Turkish side, then the Turkish side will continue to do so," Peskov stressed.
EADaily adds: on the eve of US President Donald Trump announced his readiness to lift sanctions from Turkey and consider the possibility of selling F-35 fighter jets, provided Ankara stops purchasing Russian oil and gas. He said this during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House.
"He [Erdogan] is doing an amazing job in his country. But I would like him to stop buying Russian oil while Russia continues its aggression against Ukraine. They have already fought and lost millions of lives, and for what?", — claimed Trump, quoted by The Wall Street Journal.
He stressed that this would be Erdogan's best contribution to ending the war in Ukraine.
The American president noted that he could "almost immediately" lift the sanctions imposed in 2019 after Turkey bought Russian S-400 anti-aircraft systems.
"We will discuss Patriot and F-35. I know he wants an F-35. He needs certain things, and we also need certain things, and in the end we will come to some kind of solution," Trump added.
